WHY PRICES CAN CHANGE IN THE SHOPPING CART
The prices you initially see on our webshop may differ from what you actually have to pay.
EXPLANATION: Since 2021, web shops are required to use the VAT percentage of the destination country. So depending on which country the products are sent to. And no longer, as before, the VAT percentage of the seller's country. This makes the price determination dependent on the visitor and their IP address/destination country.
The VAT percentage to be charged depends on the destination country. (For example, it is 21% for the Netherlands, 22% for Italy and 19% for Germany). (For orders to countries outside the EU, the 0% VAT rate applies)
Since we cannot determine in advance what the destination country will be for a particular order, the webshop will make this an estimate by looking at the IP address of the visitor. This gives an indication of what the possible destination country could be. The shipping costs also depend on the destination country and an estimate is also made based on the IP address. (In the case that a customer already has a customer account with us, the prices are determined based on the stored address.)
Only when the customer enters the shipping address at checkout can the webshop determine exactly which VAT rate, shipping costs and any discounts apply.
So in the event that a visitor uses a VPN and for example comes to our site via an IP address from the US (or via another country outside the EU) then the 0% VAT rate applies and initially € 0,- in VAT is charged. (then incl. VAT = excl. VAT)
As soon as this visitor then selects the destination country in the shopping cart (for example the Netherlands), the VAT rate of that country is then calculated. And in this example the VAT rate goes from 0% to 21%. This will therefore increase the final price. But in fact the price that was initially shown was not applicable to the customer/destination.
Using a VPN can therefore result in the incorrect VAT rate and shipping costs being applied initially.
